3 Firmware update The printer's various functi ons are controlled by soft ware that resides in the printer, also known as firmware. 4 Hardware maintenance For the task s in this chapt er, you ma y need th e User Maintenance Kit that was provided with your printer. Ink system tips For best results, always follow thes e guidelines: ● Follow the instructions on the front panel durin g installation. ● Allow the printer and the printhead cleaning ca rtridge to clean the pr inthe[...]

The process take s about 10 minutes and starts immediate ly, unless an image is currently being printed. If a print job is in process, the alignment will be done as so on as the curren t print job is finished. Clean the electrical connections on a printhead It is possible that the printer will not recognize a pr inthead after it has been installed. This can happen when ink builds up on the electrical connections between the printhead an d the printhead carriage. Under these circumstances, HP recommends tha t you clean the electrical connections on the pr[...]

3. Load the sponge by positioning the sponge on the face of the carriage inte rconnect wiper with the shorter tab in the locating slot. 4. Close the carriage interconnect wiper, trapping the spon ge in place. 5. Open the printhead carriage latch and extract th e printhead that is causing the problem, as indicated on the front panel. 8. Take special ca re to clean all contacts thoroughly , including the ones at the lowest point of the connector. 9. Clean the exterior of the printer Use a damp sponge or a soft cloth and a mild househ old cleaner such as non-abras[...]

3. Use a clean, absorbent lint-free cl oth to thoroughly wipe any wet ink from the cutter grove, cutter ramp and platen. 4. Clean after porous substrates If you print on a poro us substrate (through wh ich ink can pass), yo u should clean the platen immediately after each printing se ssion. 6 Troubleshoot print-quality issues General printing advice Use the following appr oach when yo u have any print-qu ality problem: ● Make sure that the substrate type that you select on the front panel, and in your RIP software, is the same as the substrate type that is loaded in the pr inter. Interpret the prin thead status plot The print consists of small dashes, one for each no zzle on each printhead. For each individual colored pattern, make su re that most of the dashes are presen t. Tiling issues The most common problems when printing tiles are as follows. ● Color degradation within individual tiles In many cases, individual tiles are long and contain very large areas of solid colors. This combination (lo ng areas of saturated solid co lors) may lead to a degradation of printhead performance, which can then cause degradation[...]

7 Troubleshoot substrate issues The substrate cannot be loaded successfully Here are some suggestions to try if yo u cannot load the substrate successfully. ● Reread the loading instructions in the User's guide , and make sure that you are following them. ● When loading a textile su bstrate, rememb er to use the loading accessory, and sele[...]

If you see the above display on th e front panel, proceed as follows. 1. Lift the substrate lever. 2. Manually repos ition the substrate on the platen. 3. Lower the substrate lever. 4. Repeat the above steps until the front panel displays the Ready message. The substrate has jammed When a jam occurs, the Possible substrate jam message usually a ppe[...]

3. Cut the substrate where it enters th e printer, and rewind the input roll. 4. Wait for the printer to cool down to room temperature. 5. Try to move the printhead carriage out of the way. 6.
