5 Using Air Conditioner T o reduce the risk of fir e, electric shock, or injury to persons, read the IMPORT ANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS befor e operating this appliance. T o begin operating the air conditioner , follow these steps: 1. Plug in the air conditioner . (T o prevent electrical hazar ds, do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug.) 2. Set the thermostat to the highest number (coldest setting). 3. Set the selector cont r ol to the ¡"HIGH COOL " setting (see below). 4. 6 Air Conditioner Featur es (continued) Rotary V ent Control This V ent Control allows the air conditioner to either r ecirculate inside air (CLOSED) or exhaust air to the outside (OPEN). These selections can be used with any F AN selection. The CLOSED position is used when maximum cooling is desired. It may also be used for air recir culation without cooling when the air conditioner is set in any F AN position. The OPEN position removes stale air fr om the room and exhausts it to the outside. 7 Car e and Cleaning Clean your air conditioner occasionally to keep it looking new . Be sure to unplug the unit before cleaning to pr event shock or fire hazards. Air Filter Cleaning The air filter should be checked at least once a month to see if cleaning is necessary . T rapped particles in the filter can build up and cause an accumulation of frost on the cooling coils. • Grasp the filter by the center and pull up and out. • W ash the filter using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water .
